Animated Carousels have been evolving of the years, but with the developments in responsive designs, some of the more advanced packages do not work as well as they used to. The RDM carousel is a case in point. The design above does not run smoothly when used in conjunction with Bootstrap 3. A number of the old libraries of examples an not be relied on, but CoolCarousel is at least a start for a more modern set of options for use in new designs. The replacement for Roundabout only has three images but is almost as smooth as the original.

The next problem is to build a new library of tools that can be easilycombined with responsive site layouts. The following set are all based on a 990px basic width so are only partially usable with a fully responsive layout.

3D Roundabout This carousel starts animating the sizes and margins of the items before it starts scrolling to recreate a 3D roundabout effect. Usable as a replacement for the old jQuery Roundabout.

Fluid Full Width Carousel An example of a fluid/liquid/responsive full window width carousel with the previous and next image truncated on the sides.

Slideshow with sketched preview This slideshow shows one image with a caption and navigation buttons next to it. The preview of the next image is in duotone and looks like it is sketched. This unique carousel was create by synchronizing three seperate carousels to work together as one.

100% width, 500px height fast animated responsive carousel This 100% width carousel has a fixed height set at 500 pixels, the images fill up the visible area using CSS. With a title and a beautifull fast uncover-fade animation, this carousel would be perfect for a header.

Nice zooming, panning and fading slideshow A nice slideshow with zooming and panning images fading in and out.

Cool responsive image slider with thumbnail carousel This entire gallery resizes along with your browser (to fit 50% of its width), the thumbnail carousel below the large image also resizes and (if necessary) changes the number of visible items. (Static)

Accordion effect simulated with a circular carousel A carousel configured and styled in such manner that is simulates an accordion like effect. Click on one of the truncated images to slide it in focus, making it fully visible. Suitable replacement for MEDW accordion display.

3D Carousel Gallery The construction of this CSS 3D gallery is fairly straightforward: eight images, absolutely stacked inside a relatively positioned figure element, which in turn is placed inside a containing div. Site has some other useful effects.

WOW Slider looks and works flawlessly on all mobile devices, modern and legacy browsers, including IE6, thanks to the standards compliant, valid, semantic markup and thoroughly optimized script.
